What Is Included in an Instant-Lock Sleeve Installation Set?
Inventory and equipment checklist for DN150 to DN500 Instant-Lock sleeve installation. Pneumatic packer, control box, air hose, and shipping protocols.
By Reliance Trenchless Technology3 min read

When a utility contractor receives a shipment of mechanical pipe repair sleeves, project success depends on having the exact matched installation tooling on site. Attempting to install an Instant-Lock sleeve with an mismatched packer, inadequate air controls, or damaged locking teeth risks improper expansion and costly retrieval operations.
In the Reliance Instant-Lock Sleeves DN150–DN500 Order Video, a full export shipment covering DN150 to DN500 (15 pieces of each size) is packaged and tagged for dispatch. To execute projects flawlessly with our Small-Diameter Instant-Lock Sleeves, contractors should understand what constitutes a complete installation kit.
Complete packing list for DN150 to DN500 mechanical repair jobs
A standard job-ready installation configuration contains two distinct categories of equipment: the permanent consumables (the sleeves) and the reusable surface/underground installation hardware.
The complete inventory comprises:
Pre-Sized Instant-Lock Sleeves: Manufactured from ASTM A240 316L stainless steel plate with vulcanised EPDM rubber profiles, calibrated to specific standard pipe inner diameters (DN150, DN200, DN250, DN300, DN375, DN400, DN450, DN500).
Dedicated Wheeled Installation Packer: Sized to match the target sleeve diameter range, equipped with smooth urethane wheels to keep the assembly centered in the pipe and off dirty inverts.
Surface Pressure Control Unit: Portable hardcase control box fitted with dual calibrated analog pressure gauges (0–6 bar), fine-metering regulator, and automatic safety pop-off relief valve.
Reinforced Air Supply Line: 50-meter or 100-meter high-pressure air hose on a portable steel reel with quick-disconnect safety couplings.
CCTV Bracket & Pulling Cable: Front and rear towing eyes on the packer for connection to winch lines or push rods, plus an adjustable camera mounting bracket for in-situ visual positioning.
The role of the matching installation packer and wheeled chassis
You cannot use a standard pipe isolation plug or a flexible resin packer to install an Instant-Lock sleeve:
Radial Uniformity: An installation packer features a reinforced cylindrical bladder with rigid internal ends that expand uniformly along its entire working length, preventing sleeve barrel distortion.
Wheel Clearance: The integrated wheels lift the pre-crimped sleeve 25 mm to 50 mm above the pipe invert, preventing the EPDM rubber ribs from dragging through sewer sludge during insertion.
Central Bypass Tube: The hollow steel central conduit allows normal sewage flow to pass through the packer while the sleeve is expanded and locked against the pipe wall.
Air pressure regulation, dual inflation stages, and locking confirmation
As highlighted in the Reliance Range Overview Video, pressure discipline is essential for mechanical locking:
Pre-Expansion Positioning: The sleeve is brought to the defect under CCTV guidance. A preliminary pressure of 1.0 to 1.5 bar rounds out the sleeve until it contacts the pipe crown. The camera operator checks that the locking strip is located at 12 o'clock and that the sleeve evenly bridges the crack.
Final Power Expansion: Air pressure is increased smoothly to the rated locking pressure—above 3.0 bar for gravity sewers or up to 5.5 bar for pressure lines.
Audible / Visual Click Confirmation: The mechanical gear strip clicks progressively outward. The operator watches the pressure gauge dwell briefly as the teeth seat firmly.
Packer Release: Air is vented through the control box. The packer bladder contracts instantly, leaving the rigid stainless sleeve permanently wedged against the pipe wall.
Pre-shipment verification and on-site checklist before entry
Before dispatching an installation crew to a job site, verify this operational checklist:
Factory Foam Protection: Check that each sleeve arrives in its individual protective closed-cell foam sleeve. The pre-machined ratchet teeth must have zero deformation or dents.
Confirm Measured ID Against Sleeve Tag: Pipe nominal sizes vary (e.g. ductile iron DN200 has an ID of ~206 mm, whereas clay DN200 may be 200 mm). Confirm the sleeve size range covers the exact measured host pipe bore.
Inspect Packer Bladder & Wheel Bearings: Ensure the packer bladder shows no cuts and that all roller wheels spin freely without wobble.
