Sectional Point Repair: How Much Pipe Has to Be Sound?

A 300 mm crack needs a 700 mm point repair: defect plus two overlaps plus two shoulders, and why the packer must be longer than the patch.

2 min 30 secEnglish

Application Overview

The film's numbers follow the published packer-length guide: repair = defect + 2 x 150 mm overlap + 2 x 50 mm shoulder, so a 300 mm crack takes 700 mm. A 50-75 mm landing is the mechanical sleeve's figure, not the packer patch's. Confirm the model, bore and groundwater conditions with Reliance before ordering.

  1. 010:00What a sectional point repair is

Fifty metres of sewer under a road, one crack, and a packer carrying a patch down the manhole instead of digging.

  2. 020:29Why a point repair is longer than the defect

The repair is the defect plus an overlap on each side plus a shoulder: the overlap is the sound pipe the patch holds on, the shoulder keeps resin off the packer's tapered ends.

  3. 031:04How long a repair packer has to be

The packer's flat cylindrical length must cover the whole patch: 550 and 600 mm are too short for 700 mm, so it takes RP 200-300 at 760 mm or RP 150-250 at 820 mm.

  4. 041:45What to measure before ordering a repair packer

Four numbers: the measured bore at the defect, the defect length and its CCTV position, the groundwater head and whether flow must continue, and the manhole opening.

  5. 052:10When a point repair should be a full reline instead

A point repair suits one or two defects in sound pipe; past a fifth of the reach in damage or ten percent out of round, the whole run gets lined.
